Heading North

I've been in Manila now for almost a week for my mother's high school reunion. I wasn't exactly sure what it would be like to see her back in her element with her old batch. But I knew I wanted to be there to bear witness and document her growth as well as mine.

Before reunion activities got rolling, we did the mega mall tour and caught the recent movie, The Bucket List. (I'll save my comments about the wide availability of Hollywood media for later. At that moment, I just appreciated that movie was affordable. And I had the privilege of this leisure time with my folks.)

While a bit on the corny side, the movie did get us talking about the "end" and what she and my father wanted to do with the time they have left. It set a nice tone in some way for this time together. The movie also helped us discuss what it means for us to return home and how we make sure that it is spent well without any regrets.

On Friday, I got away with my mom, dad, godparents and god sister to Nasugbu in Batangas with the other MAPA High School Alumni. We stopped off at two spiritual retreat centers: The Chapel on the Hill in Don Bosco and Caleruega. I felt myself breath easier as I began to see more
green and the blue sky and find the familiar island flora that we find in Hawaii. We were all feeling lighter and happier to get out of the city.

Looking forward to leaving the metropolis and heading north to Tadian, Mountain Province.

We leave tonight.
