Make this Good Friday, mmm..good...

The first Friday of the month is coming. And here in Honolulu, that means it's First Friday! The streets of downtown Chinatown buzz at a different vibration. Galleries, museums and studios open their doors into the night. Live music and poetic words waft and linger through the air.

And in Da Space and Studio B- "Where daWord is da'Art", da sistahs and da bruddahs will be be celebrating the 1st Year Anniversary of the SmarTitas Rant and Rave. With word magic, food, and music, we'll be sharing and breaking down the cosmic/comic lessons of our lives.

Join us this, Friday, April 6th
6-9pm @ Daspace 1192 Smith Street
2nd floor ChinaTown
(corner of Smith & Beretania ABOVE Yasura'srestaurant, 1 block down from the Chinese Cultural Center)
Parking available in Chinese Cultural Center for cheap.

Lined up are some of your favorite poets, pukengkeng libbers, and babaylan:

Johanna Almiron
Darlene Rodrigues
Brenda Kwon
Gigi Miranda
and, yours truly.

I am actually a little freaked that I am reading, because I haven't publicly shared or performed in years. This is a bit of stretch for me, cuz I've often been content to do the production side of things and hide out in the back-playing organizer, vibe watcher, energy/process holder, etc. But as Auntie Moana- the orignal SMART TITA sayz, "Make Daspace to create, rejuvenate and educate... "

And that's what I am most definitely dedicating myself to doing as I cut a new groove this year.

If you wanna share your stories and poetry
call Moana @ 351-4960

Bring pupus if you going read yeah...pot luck style... kay?

P.S. If cannot make it this time around, make a mental note to come check it out: They get belly dance classes weekly, yoga on Mondays, hula on Thursdays and meditation on Tuesday nites. And private events are always welcome. It's truly a groovy community space and most worthy of our aloha and support.
