Vacation Highlights

Quick vacation highlights:

6.9 Thursday:
Arrived in DC. Washington Zoo with Apo Caesar and Malaya and lunch at Rainforest Cafe at Tysons Corner.

6.10 Friday:
Riverbend Park Nature Center with Malaya and Apo Emma. Water Park at Lake Fairfax with my brother, Malaya, and Apo Emma. Got Apo Emma to ride on the water tubes!

6.11 Saturday:
Puppet Show and Merry-Go-Round Ride at Glen Echo Park. Attended bridal shower for long time sistah friend-babaylan, Melisa Casumbal who will be getting married next Saturday! Had a play-date with her anak-nakan (step-son to be) and Malaya at the playground.

6.12 Sunday:
Attended the surprise anniversary party of long-time BIMAK couple, Edwin and Mia Abeya. They had no clue and when they drove up the driveway, their lawn was lined with BIMAK kids and men playing gangsa and women dancing. Saw so many family friends that I grew up with now also have kids of their own. Talked with folks about going to teach at St. Mary's in Sagada in the next five years. Drove up to New York with Dad, my sister, and Malaya.

6.13 Monday:
New York. Morning at Central Park on the kiddie rides at Wollman Rink. Air conditioned afternoon at FAO Shwartz, cold treats at their ice cream palor and being read to by Princess Anastasia. Late afternoon tour of the NBC studio. Dinner at the American Girl doll-shop/restaurant. (I had to suspend my political conscious-but notes on that later.) A four hour drive home with Dad. (And definately highlights of that car conversation, later, too)

6.14 Tuesday:
Malaya and I went with Apo Emma for haircuts and lunch at the mall. Attempted the earpiercing thing, but Malaya decided against it. That evening went downtown to support Cindy Cline, shelter director of Women Helping Women, Maui Girl, and gentle-fierce Pinay who was being honored with the Donna Resse Award by the
National Coaltion to End Domestic Violence.

6.15 Wednesday:
Spent the morning at the Reston petting Zoo with Malaya and her Apo Caesar and Apo Emma. She got to feed two baby goats and a baby lama with milk bottles and ride a pony named Ringo. That afternoon I took off to join some Hawaii folks on Capitol Hill to talk to our congressional delegation about the re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act.
